Spain and Argentina have been locked in a tight battle at the FIFA World Cup 2026 final taking place in New Jersey on Sunday.
The two sides played out a cagey first half with the match remaining goalless and creating miminal chances to threaten the goalkeepers.
If the score remains the same at the end of the game, the match will be decided by two periods of extra time and then a penalty shootout if required.
If a shootout is needed to determine the winner, this will become just the fourth World Cup final decided that way.
Brazil’s shootout win over Italy following a 0-0 draw was the first instance of a tiebreaker needed in the summit clash.
France and Italy played out a 1-1 draw in 2006 before the Azzuri pipped their neighbours in the shootout.
Argentina, too, needed penalties to get the better of France in 2022 after an entertaining 3-3 draw at the end of extra time.
