Enshrouding Crystals are new currency items in Path of Exile that can help you transfer modifiers from one Unique to another. It’s part of the new reworked Legion mechanics and the only way to create a Vestigial Unique item. Each piece of armor requires a specific Enshrouding Crystal, all of which can drop from notable enemies within the mechanics.

Do note that belts are accessories and do not interact with this mechanic. With that said, here’s how you can get every type of Enshrouding Crystal in Path of Exile and use them on unique items.

Enshrouding Crystals drop randomly from enemies in the Legion Mechanic. They spawn after you interact with the large purple pillars called Timeless Monoliths across maps. Once you start the mechanics, break free as many frozen enemies as you can. We recommend looking for rares and caches for the best chance to get a Crystal drop.

Legion features five warring factions, each with a General at the helm. Defeating them is the only way you can get an Enshrouding Crystal, although the drop isn’t guaranteed. These are:

By default, Legion encounters will have random warring factions. However, you can use the Atlas Passive Tree to influence what type of faction you want to see more. In addition to that, you can also improve chances of spawning a General leading the faction you choose.

Using the Enshrouding Crystal is like any other currency. Right-click on it and apply it to the related Unique. The process will turn that piece of gear into an Enshrouded Unique, rendering it unusable. Do note that at this point, the item is basically destroyed, so make sure it’s not something active in your build.

You can then take the Enshrouded Unique into the Domain of the Timeless Conflict. If you haven’t visited this place yet, here’s how to do it:

Once inside, you’ll find a giant crystal, surrounded by smaller crystals, each for a different type of unique. Before starting the encounter, put the unique inside the related crystal. And while you run the League mechanics, it will start to charge and ultimately give you a new Unique item with an implicit from the previous Unique.

A few things to keep in mind are that new Uniques can only be the ones available in the regular Drop pool, meaning you cannot get Shaper's Touch as a reward. However, you can use the Enshrouding Crystal on Shaper's Touch to rip one of its unique mods and give it to a random Unique of the same type.
