The Indian Institute of Technology-Tirupati (IIT-Tirupati), in collaboration with its Navavishkar I-Hub Foundation (IITNiF), on Monday hosted the fifth meeting of the BRICS Working Group on ‘Geospatial Technologies and its Applications’ at its Yerpedu campus.

The three-day international event, organised under the aegis of the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India, is themed ‘Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability’. It has brought together policymakers, scientists, academicians, industry leaders, startups and research organisations from the BRICS countries and partner nations.

The meeting is being held in a hybrid mode, with delegates from Brazil, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Iran, Russia, South Africa and the United Arab Emirates participating virtually to deliberate on the role of geospatial technologies in addressing contemporary global challenges and promoting sustainable development.

IIT-Tirupati Director K. N. Satyanarayana, DST Under Secretary Gautam Govind, Head of the DST National Geospatial Programme Division Manoranjan Mohanty, and scientists Shubha Pandey and Arindam Bhattacharya participated in the inaugural session.

The speakers underlined the importance of international cooperation and technological innovation in strengthening the geospatial ecosystem across the BRICS nations.

Welcoming the delegates, IITNiF Director Roshan Srivastav highlighted the transformative role of geospatial technologies in addressing societal challenges.
