    Is Facebook Instagram down today? Users report outage, messaging issues and app glitches worldwide (Representative image)
    Meta-owned Instagram is facing a reported outage, with thousands of users reporting problems accessing the platform, sending messages and loading profiles. Outage monitoring website Downdetector recorded a sharp rise in complaints on Wednesday evening.

    User reports of Instagram malfunction increased from 436 at around 6:00 pm to 1,993 at 7:13 pm. The number of complaints further climbed to nearly 3,706 by 7:44 pm.

    Users report app, messaging and loading issues

    According to Downdetector data, 61% of users reported problems with the Instagram application, while 19% flagged server-related issues and 11% reported website problems.


    Users said they faced difficulties sending and receiving messages, along with issues such as blank screens, incorrect profile loading and delayed updates in messaging inboxes.

    Reports suggest outage may affect users globally

    Android Authority reported that users across the United States also experienced similar issues with Instagram. Downdetector recorded more than 1,000 outage reports from cities including New York, San Francisco, Chicago, Seattle, Los Angeles and Atlanta.

    StatusGator also indicated that the disruption may have affected other Meta platforms, including Facebook, with some users reporting loading issues and error messages.

    Meta yet to acknowledge outage

    Meta has not officially acknowledged the reported disruption on its status page. The company’s platform metrics continue to display a "No known issues" status.

    Meta does not operate a public consumer-facing status page and uses a business dashboard for service updates.

    No evidence of cyberattack, experts warn against account recovery attempts

    There is currently no indication that the outage is linked to a cyberattack. Cybersecurity experts have advised users to avoid repeatedly resetting passwords or clicking on account recovery links received through SMS or email until Meta confirms that its services have been restored.
