Thousands of users across the world are reporting issues accessing OpenAI's popular AI chatbot, with many unable to log in, send prompts or access their chat history.

The outage began within the last 40 minutes, with reports surging on DownDetector from users in the United States, Europe, India, Japan, Australia and several other countries.

OpenAI has acknowledged the issue on its status page, saying it is investigating the disruption.

"We are investigating the issue for the listed services," the company said.

Users have reported a range of connectivity problems affecting both the ChatGPT website and mobile app. The issue appears to be impacting free and paid subscribers alike.

The most commonly reported problems include:

Many users have also taken to social media platform X to report being stuck on loading screens or being unable to access previous chats.

OpenAI's status page lists the issue as being under investigation. During the outage, the status page has intermittently switched between showing an active incident and normal operations, something that can happen when authentication systems experience disruptions even if the core AI models remain operational.

The company has not yet disclosed the cause of the outage or provided an estimated timeline for restoration.

Latest outage comes days after previous disruption

The latest incident comes just two days after OpenAI experienced another major outage affecting ChatGPT, Codex and its API services. That disruption took nearly 24 hours to fully resolve.

With another outage occurring so soon, users have raised concerns about the platform's recent reliability.
