Lionel Messi is expected to start for Argentina in their match against Switzerland at the FIFA World Cup. The two sides clash in the quarterfinals at Kansas City Stadium, United States.

Argentina had a smooth sailing in the group stages, scoring eight goals past Algeria, Austria and Jordan, while conceding just once. However, their knockout stage has been a rough one, with Cape Verde taking them to extra time in the Round of 32, and Egypt pushing them to their limits in the Round of 16.

Lionel Scaloni's side still managed to come out victorious, winning both games with a 3-2 scoreline in contrasting fashion. While the defending champions never went behind to Cape Verde, they had to come from 2-0 down in the last 11 minutes to beat Egypt.

Lionel Messi played a key role in both matches, scoring the opening goal against Cape Verde and then the equaliser against Egypt. He has been in stunning form this summer and is joint-top of the Golden Boot race with Kylian Mbappe with 8 goals.
