The unexpected update came as a surprise to fans, who had been eagerly waiting for the trailer to drop online following its Comic-Con premiere.

Ramayana trailer launch put on hold

Namit Malhotra shared the announcement through his social media accounts, confirming that the trailer's worldwide release had been postponed. While the trailer was expected to be unveiled globally on Thursday morning after its exclusive screening at San Diego Comic-Con, that plan has now changed.

The producer also revealed a major milestone for the ambitious mythological film. He announced that Ramayana has partnered with Sony Pictures Entertainment, calling it an important step in his long-standing vision of taking the Indian epic to audiences across the world.

However, he added, "In light of the above we will be launching our trailer now globally at a later date." As of now, the makers have not announced a revised release date or time for the trailer.

Why was the trailer postponed?

Although Malhotra did not directly explain why the trailer launch was delayed, the announcement came amid ongoing student CJP protests in India. The timing of the statement has led to speculation on social media that the makers may have decided to postpone the online launch because of the current situation.

However, it is important to note that the producer did not officially link the postponement to the protests. Instead, his statement primarily focused on the film's global ambitions and its partnership with Sony Pictures Entertainment.

In his message, Malhotra described Ramayana as a project that could become a defining moment for Indian cinema. He said he believes the film has the potential to be presented to international audiences on the same scale as major Hollywood productions, while introducing viewers around the world to India's rich culture and timeless stories.

He also thanked fans and supporters who have backed the project since its announcement. In the closing part of his statement, he stated, "I thank all the fans and the believers of Ramayana to help make this happen. Ranbir Kapoor, Yash at San Diego Comic-Con 2026

Even though the online trailer release has been postponed, the Ramayana team was still scheduled to appear at San Diego Comic-Con 2026.

Producer Namit Malhotra, director Nitesh Tiwari and lead actors Ranbir Kapoor and Yash arrived at the prestigious event to take part in the film's hour-long panel at Ballroom 20. Hosted by entertainment journalist Coy Jandreau, the session is set to give attendees an exclusive first look at the trailer along with never-before-seen footage from the film.

Before the postponement, the makers had planned to release the trailer worldwide on the film's official YouTube channel and verified social media platforms at 10 AM IST on July 24, immediately after the Comic-Con presentation. Those plans have now been put on hold, with a fresh announcement expected soon.

A star-studded cast and global-scale production

Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, Ramayana has been one of the most talked-about Indian films since its announcement. The film boasts a star-studded cast led by Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita and Yash as Ravana.

The ensemble also includes Sunny Deol and Ravi Dubey in pivotal roles, making it one of the biggest mythological films currently in production.
