Conor McGregor suffered an injury just seconds into his UFC 329 fight against Max Holloway.

The Irishman went for a kick right at the start of the fight and injured his knee. McGregor was unable to stand up at times and even slipped on the canvas.

‘The Notorious’ was unable to continue, and the referee called the fight off after just one minute of the first round.

While this came off as a disappointing return for McGregor, the Irishman denied suggestions he was carrying an injury coming into the fight.

Sean Strickland, the UFC middleweight champion, shared his thoughts on the injury and hinted that steroid use could have led to it.

Weeks before the fight, a report had claimed that McGregor had taken banned substances after he injured his foot against Dustin Poirier in his last UFC fight.

While this was never confirmed by McGregor’s team, Strickland posted about steroid use on social media:

Strickland also was asked about McGregor’s injury, and he too didn’t believe that the Irishman would have tried that kick on Holloway if he had a knock.

Strickland was also asked about age being a factor. McGregor’s last fight was five years ago, and he also suffered an injury in 2024, which canceled his scheduled clash against Michael Chandler.

Strickland pointed out that age does play a factor in injuries:
