Mayank Yadav said that earning the Player of the Match award on his return to international cricket was a “very special moment” after India’s seven-wicket win over Zimbabwe on Thursday, July 23.
Playing for India for the first time since October 2024, Mayank finished with figures of two for 18 from his four overs including the wicket of Brian Bennett from the first ball of the match.
“It always feels great when you contribute for your country in a win, especially coming after a very long time, so it’s a very special moment for me,” he told broadcasters after the win.
Bowling in Zimbabwe for the first time, the 24-year-old noted that the wicket had been helpful, saying, “The bounce which I got today and the seam movement did help me. I was just hitting the deck and the bounce I was getting was great.”
He also heaped praise on his fellow seamers Ashok Sharma (none for 29) and Prince Yadav (two for 19). “We got a good start with a wicket off the first ball, and the way they were squeezing helped a lot of help to get them out for 120 (125).”
