Jordan Pickford is set to break the record for most appearances by an English player in the FIFA World Cup after being named in the starting line-up for the quarterfinal against Norway on Saturday.

    The Everton goalkeeper will make his 18th appearance at the quadrennial event since making his debut in 2018 under Gareth Southgate.

    The previous record was held by fellow custodian Peter Shilton who stood between the sticks at the 1982, 1986 and the 1990 editions.

    Skipper Harry Kane is joint-second in the list with 17 appearances ahead of John Stones who has 16.
