Harry Kane has become the English outfield player with the most FIFA World Cup appearances after being named in the starting line-up for the semifinal against Argentina in Atlanta on Wednesday.

The striker earned his 121st cap against the defending champion to move ahead of former captain Wayne Rooney. Goalkeeper Peter Shilton (125) holds the overall record.

Kane is the leading international goal-scorer for the Three Lions with 85 goals. It was another record which he took over from Rooney who scored 53 during his stint.

The Bayern Munich striker has scored 14 goals in the quadrennial event, putting him joint-fifth in the all-time list alongside Gerd Muller. It is comfortably the most goals scored by an Englishman in the World Cup.

Kane has scored six goals in England’s run to the semifinal and is goal from eclipsing the tournament record for the country (6 by Gary Lineker in 1986 and Kane in 2018).
