An elderly couple from Chamdera village in neighbouring Shahpur Assembly constituency of Kangra district has arranged the remarriage of their widowed daughter-in-law and performed the sacred kanyadaan ceremony, treating

    her as their own daughter.

Ishwar Dass and Vimla Devi took the step to secure the future of Ranjana Kumari, whose husband, Rajinder Kumar, died in a road accident nearly one-and-a-half years ago.

Despite their personal loss, the couple stood by Ranjana, offering her emotional support and care. Putting her happiness and future above social convention, they solemnised her remarriage with full dignity and traditional rituals on Saturday. Dass performed the kanyadaan, while other family members participated in the wedding ceremonies.

Ranjana’s brothers-in-law, Inder Kumar and Surinder Pal, helped organise the wedding and presented household essentials to the bride as gifts.

The emotional farewell ceremony moved many villagers, who praised the family’s compassion and progressive outlook. Residents said the gesture sent a powerful message that relationships are built not merely by blood but also by love, trust,

    respect and humanity.

The family’s decision has inspired many in the region, highlighting the importance of supporting widowed women and ensuring they can begin a new chapter in life with dignity and acceptance.
