Kanniyakumari District Collector M. Prathap on Wednesday inspected several locations in Agastheeswaram taluk as part of the “Ungalai Thedi Ungal Ooril,” initiative.
Mr. Prathap visited the eco park located at the State Horticulture Department’s Orchard Farm in Kanniyakumari. He reviewed the basic amenities available for the visitors and inspected the chocolate manufacturing unit functioning within the premises. The Collector directed the officials to further enhance the park’s facilities to attract more visitors.
Subsequently, he inspected the Vattakottai fort and Othapanai tank in the area. Officials were instructed to clean the tank and release surplus water for the benefit of farmers in the region.
He said that women belonging to Self Help Groups (SHGs) in South Thamaraikulam had been engaged in home baking activities and that measures would be taken to help expand their business.
The Collector also visited the Government Higher Secondary School in Kottaram, where he interacted with students and enquired about classes, the availability of textbooks and other facilities.
Later, he inspected the construction work of an anganwadi centre at Nallur and reviewed the infrastructure and amenities that would be provided at the facility.
