Former top 20 player Sebastian Baez will square off against Yannick Hanfmann in the quarterfinals of the Generali Open 2026.

Baez beat Miomir Kecmanovic 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 to reach the second round, where he faced third seed Arthur Rinderknech. The Argentine rallied from a break down in the first set, and then overturned a 5-2 deficit in the tie-break to claim the opener.

Rinderknech brushed off the disappointment to capture the second set thanks to a couple of service breaks. The two were evenly matched for most of the third set. Baez snagged the decisive break of serve in the seventh game to go 4-3 up. He held on to that advantage until the end to score a 7-6 (6), 2-6, 6-4 win.

Hanfmann beat Lucas Neumayer 7-6 (5), 6-4 to book his spot in the second round, where Marco Trungelliti awaited him. The German struck first to go 3-1 up in the first set and remained ahead until the end to secure the set.

Hanfmann went up a break in the second set, and later held three match points on Trungelliti's serve in the eighth game. He failed to capitalize on his chances and couldn't close out the match himself in the next game as well. However, he regrouped in the ensuing tie-break to register a 6-4, 7-6 (2) win.

Hanfmann leads their rivalry 1-0. He won their previous meeting at the Generali Open 2025 in three sets.

Baez was pushed to three sets for the second time this week but managed to prevail in the end. He improved his record for the season to 21-16 with his win over Rinderknech, and to 11-11 on clay. He has also advanced to his sixth quarterfinal of the season.

Hanfmann hasn't lost a set this week. He has compiled a 19-14 record this season, with a 13-8 record on clay. He has progressed to his third quarterfinal of the season. He fought past Baez in three sets at this very tournament a year ago.

Baez has a 4-1 record in quarterfinal matches this year. He won all four matches in straight sets. Hanfmann has a 1-0 record. He won his quarterfinal in Santiago in three sets, and gave a walkover in his other quarterfinal, which doesn't count as a loss.

Baez has usually kept his composure at this stage of a tournament this season. He's starting to find his form on clay after an inconsistent stretch on the surface. As such, he will be the slight favorite to win this showdown.

Pick: Sebastian Baez to win in three sets.

Tip 1: The match will have at least 26 games.

Tip 2: There will be at least one tie-break.
