The Kongunadu Makkal Desiya Katchi (KMDK) has urged the district administration to remove the toll plaza at Ammapettai on the Thoppur–Mettur–Bhavani Road (NH 544H), alleging that toll is collected without providing the infrastructure and amenities expected of a toll road.
In a petition submitted to the officials at the Collectorate on Tuesday (July 14, 2026), the party said residents of the region have been demanding a removal of the toll plaza for more than a year as the road was neither widened nor upgraded.
The party contended that the toll collection had caused hardship to motorists, farmers, workers and the public who used the road regularly. Collecting toll without carrying out the promised road improvements had set a wrong precedent. Urging the district administration to intervene, the KMDK sought immediate action to remove the toll plaza in the interest of the public.
