New Delhi: Fresh political speculation has emerged in West Bengal after senior Trinamool Congress leader Kunal Ghosh described veteran MLA Madan Mitra as “our man,” even though Mitra recently joined the rival faction led by Leader of the Opposition Ritabrata Banerjee.

The remarks came inside the West Bengal Assembly, where Madan Mitra made an unexpected appearance at a protest organised by legislators aligned with the Mamata Banerjee camp. Welcoming him, Ghosh joked that while Mitra had “physically gone” to the rival camp, “his heart still remains here,” adding that the faction now had “one of its own” on the other side.

Mitra, however, dismissed suggestions that he was reconsidering his move. He clarified that his participation in the protest was merely a courtesy after stepping out of Ritabrata Banerjee’s chamber and insisted that his political stand remained unchanged. He also took a veiled swipe at Ghosh, hinting that more leaders could eventually leave the Mamata Banerjee camp.

Mitra’s recent decision to align with the Ritabrata Banerjee-led faction has intensified the internal divisions within the Trinamool Congress. Although he has resigned from organisational posts in the Mamata Banerjee-led camp, he continues to maintain that he remains a member of the TMC, underscoring the fluid political situation within the party.
