Kurnool district will receive 1.5 tmcft of water from the Tungabhadra reservoir from July 16 (Thursday) to meet the drinking water requirements in several areas.

According to District Collector A. Siri, the release of water will commence at 9 a.m. on Thursday at a rate of 900 cusecs. The water is expected to take about a week to reach the district through the canal network.

The Collector said that the allocation has been made exclusively for drinking water needs and should not be used for irrigation or any other purpose. She warned that any unauthorised diversion, illegal extraction or misuse of the water would invite strict action.

She instructed the officials of the Water Resources, Revenue, and Police departments to maintain constant vigil along the supply channels and ensure that the water was utilised only for drinking purposes.
