Real Madrid and France superstar Kylian Mbappe is set to return as the cover star for the video game EA FC27 and sent a message on social media. The 27-year-old forward has enjoyed a sensational year so far, and has been selected to be the face of the game this year.
Mbappe took to social media to reveal the significance of his return as the cover star, posting a simple two-word message. He showed that he is excited to be made the cover star for the first time since the creation of the EA FC franchise.
Kylian Mbappe has not been a cover star for the video game franchise since it became known as EA FC after the split from FIFA's official license. He was the cover star for both the Standard and Ultimate Editions of FIFA 23, as well as FIFA 21 and FIFA 22.
When EA FC was created in 2024, the cover stars were changed for the first time in three years. Manchester City star Erling Haaland was the cover star of the Standard Edition of EA FC24, with Jude Bellingham getting the same role for EA FC25 and EA FC26.
Kylian Mbappe is set to be the cover star for a fourth time in his career, tying Lionel Messi for the number of appearances in the EA franchise. Both players are still behind Ronaldinho (5) and Wayne Rooney (6) for editions of the video game as cover star. The game is set to release in September 2026, just after the commencement of the 2026-27 season proper.
France captain Kylian Mbappe made history during the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America this summer. The 27-year-old was one of the best players in the tournament and ended up winning the Golden Boot after scoring ten goals in eight games.
Mbappe became the first player in history to win back-to-back FIFA World Cup Golden Boots, having also done so in 2022. He took his tally in the competition to 22 goals, earning him the record for the most goals scored in the history of the tournament, one more than Messi managed for Argentina.
Kylian Mbappe also set a new record for the most goal contributions in an edition of the tournament since 1966 with ten goals and four assists for Les Bleus. The forward failed, however, to win the competition, finishing fourth after losses to Spain and England.
