Left parties, student, youth and Dalit organisations, along with various people’s organisations, staged a rally in Visakhapatnam on Saturday to celebrate the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, describing it as the outcome of a sustained student movement against alleged irregularities in national entrance examinations.

The rally began at the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar statue near the LIC building in Daba Gardens and culminated at the Mahatma Gandhi statue at the GVMC office.

The protesters demanded a judicial inquiry into the alleged police action against students at Jantar Mantar and sought stringent punishment for those responsible. They also urged the Centre to provide compensation of ₹1 crore each to the families of students who allegedly lost their lives due to issues linked to NEET and ₹50 lakh each to those injured in the alleged police action.

Among those who participated were CPI leader J. V. Satyanarayana Murthy, CPI(M) leader and former corporator B. Gangarao, and others.
