Security forces on Wednesday spotted the body of a Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist at an encounter site in south Kashmir’s Shopian, where an anti-militancy operation was on for the past five days.

“One LeT terrorist, identified as Zakir Ganai, has been eliminated in the firefight. Arms, ammunition and other war-like stores were recovered. The operation is in progress,” said an Army spokesman.

The Army said a joint operation was launched based on specific intelligence input from the Jammu and Kashmir Police in Shopian’s Chanapora area. “During the search operation, an exchange of fire took place between the security forces and the terrorist,” the Army said.

Meanwhile, the Jammu and Kashmir Police, in a post on X, said: “You can run but you can’t hide!”

A gunfight between terrorists and security forces erupted on July 4 in Shopian. At least two terrorists were spotted in the area. Since then, the security forces continued the operation in the area.
