A 40-year-old farmer was reportedly electrocuted after coming into contact with an illegally installed live electric fence at Jogyanur village of Gudupalle mandal near Kuppam in Chittoor district on Sunday (July 26, 2026) night.
The deceased was identified as Venkatesh. According to the police, Venkatesh was returning home when he accidentally touched the fence erected in a neighbouring field and died on the spot.
According to the preliminary investigation, the fence was electrified to prevent wild boar attacks on crops. Forest officials said they had repeatedly warned farmers in border villages against using live wires, citing serious safety risks and violations of wildlife protection norms. Such fences are reportedly common in forested villages in Palamaner and Kuppam areas bordering Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.
A case has been registered, and further investigation is under way.
