Madurai City Traffic Police have seized 10 motorbikes on charges of minor children riding them without driving licence on Sunday night.

    The police have booked their parents/guardians and the vehicle owners under the provisions of Motor Vehicle Act for letting children without license to ride bikes.

    A statement said that based on the instruction of Commissioner of Police, S. Rajenthiran, the traffic police conducted a vehicle check on Sunday night at Tallakulam, Thilagar Thidal, Tideer Nagar, Chinthamani, South Gate, Vilakkuthoon, Anna Nagar, S.S. Colony and Teppakulam police station limits.

    The statement said that parents/guardians and vehicle owners would be booked as accused under Section 199-A of Motor Vehicle Act for allowing children without driving licence to use the vehicles.

    The accused could get up to three years of jail, ₹25,000 fine and suspension of vehicle registration for one year. Besides, the rider would be imposed a fine of ₹5,000.

    The Commissioner has issued a stern warning against those who violate the Motor Vehicle Act.
