By widening the Vandiyur Tank Road, traffic congestion experienced in and around the integrated bus stand at Mattuthavani would ease to a great extent, said Madurai East TVK MLA S. Karthikeyan here on Friday.

Inaugurating the United Build Expo convention at the Tamukkum Convention Centre, he said that the appeal from the organisers to have a permanent infrastructure for conducting such exhibitions would soon have a solution.

Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay is keen on development of Tier-2 cities and Madurai fits the proposal.

As for the vehicle congestion experienced in many parts of northern side of the city, especially in the flower market, integrated bus stand area, omni bus stand till Meenakshi Mission Hospital etc, Mr. Karthikeyan said that it would be more severe, when the Tidel Park is to come up in the vicinity.

Every vehicle has to cross this stretch and the only alternative was to widen the Vandiyur Tank Road.

Thus in a bid to give a relief to the motorists, the new government would take up the proposal to widen the Vandiyur Tank Road by at least 80-feet, which would come as a major alternative.

“We have also plans to connect with Pandikoil Road, Ring Road, Natham Road and Outer Ring Road. Though there was a proposal to take up this in the past, for no reason, it was dropped,” he said and added that three days ago, the District Collector Nishanth Krishna, Corporation Commissioner Gaurav Kumar and other officicials took a survey.

Over 100 stalls are participating in the expo which is being held here for the 10th time. The visitors can have a look at several new exhibits and technology introduced in the housing sector. Apart from reputed builders, layout and residential plot promoters, firms producing building construction materials among other allied units are also participating in the expo.

The expo would be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.. Tamil Nadu Chamber of Commerce and Industry president N. Jagatheesan, Lions Club Governor Arivazhagan, Expo MD Packiaraj, Kumaresh Babu and others were present at the inaugural.
