Money meant to help a mother educate her children allegedly led to her killing in Annamayya district of Andhra Pradesh, leaving two children motherless and a village in shock.

Padmavathi (28), a resident of Kothapalli village near Rapurivaripalli panchayat in Pedda Thippa Samudram mandal, was allegedly murdered by her husband, Suresh, on Thursday (July 23, 2026) night after a quarrel over money received under the State’s Talliki Vandanam scheme.

According to Padmavathi’s mother, Kalavathi, Suresh (34) had been asking her to hand over the money. When she refused, he allegedly assaulted her and slit her throat.

Padmavathi leaves behind two sons, aged about 10 and eight. The police shifted the body to the government district hospital in Madanapalle for post-mortem. A case has been registered, and special teams have been formed to trace Suresh, who is absconding.
