Swift intervention of the Singappen Special Force (SSF) led to the arrest on Wednesday of a 32-year-old man who allegedly sexually harassed a minor girl near Karumathampatti in Coimbatore district. The accused was identified as M. Uthaman of Chandrapuram near Karumathampatty.
The SSF attached to the Coimbatore District Police received specific information that a 14-year-old girl residing within the limits of Karumathampatti police station was subjected to sexual harassment.
The SSF personnel visited the spot and reportedly found that Uthaman had sexually harassed the minor girl. They nabbed him and handed him over to the All Women Police Station, Karumathampatti, for further legal action.
The accused was booked under relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, following which he was produced before a court. He was remanded in judicial custody.
A. Pavan Kumar Reddy, Superintendent of Police, Coimbatore District, lauded the SSF personnel for the swift action.
