Cumbum South police have arrested a man on the charges of sexually harassing a girl student.

The police acting on a complaint that the 15 year old girl had gone missing from her hostel in Cumbum, reviewed CCTV footage from bus stands across Theni district.

One footage had captured the student borrowing a mobile phone from Kanchi Vasantha Mani who worked at a tea stall near Theni new bus stand. Subsequently he took the student on his motorcycle.

Based on the CCTV footage, the police tracked the tea stall worker. Following an inquiry it was revealed that the girl did not like staying in the hostel and she wanted to visit a relative.

When she was near Theni new bus stand, she sought the help of the accused to make a phone call. The accused then offered to drop her. Instead, he took her to his home and sexually harassed her.

Based on a complaint lodged by the student, the police arrested Kanchi Vasantha Mani.
