The Dindigul District Crime Branch police have arrested a man who cheated a teacher couple of ₹50 lakh on the pretext of securing the woman a government job.

The police said Sheela was working as a teacher in a private school and her husband Peter was a government school teacher. They were introduced to Thangaraj by a friend.

Thangaraj told the couple that he would get Ms. Sheela an Assistant Professor post at the Government Arts College in Salem. However, the process would cost ₹30 lakh, he told them.

Believing his words, Ms. Sheela and Mr. Peter transferred ₹50 lakh to Thangaraj. They also sought government jobs for three of their relatives.

Thangaraj instructed them to meet the Vice-Principal of the college, Anbalagan. Anbalagan showed the couple the appointment order and assured them that the official order would be sent through email or post. A similar appointment order was issued to one of their relatives.

However, it was subsequently discovered that the orders were fake. When Ms. Sheela demanded return of the money they gave to Thangaraj, she and her husband were threatened by him and his accomplices.

Ms. Sheela lodged a police complaint. Based on the complaint, the Dindigul District Crime Branch police registered a case against Thangaraj, Anbalagan and one Mohanambal, and arrested Thangaraj.
