A 34-year-old man died after he got trapped in a lift meant to ferry goods at a sweet shop in Hisar town today.

According to the information available, the neck of the deceased got stuck between the doors of the elevator. While his neck was severed, the rest of his body remained inside the lift.

The deceased has been identified as Jasbir, a resident of Kumbha Khera village in the district. He was visiting his relative Vijay who works at the shop.

Sweet shop owner Anil Goyal said his elder son Deepak Goyal manages the shop. He informed that they were away for some work and Vijay stayed back at the shop. Yesterday, Vijay’s maternal aunt’s son Jasbir came to meet him. Vijay told him to stay overnight at the shop.

According to the information available, the incident occurred in the morning today when Jasbir used the goods lift to bring down items kept on the second floor.

Anil Goyal said that when Jasbir reached the second floor, his neck suddenly got trapped between the lift doors.

Goyal said all regular workers use the staircase to move between floors and the lift is meant only for transporting goods. Jasbir had come to the shop for the first time and was possibly using a lift for the first time.

Meanwhile, Rambir, father of the deceased, has suspected foul play in the death of his son and has demanded a high-level inquiry into the incident.

Hisar City police station SHO Amit Kundu said the incident seemed to be an accident in the preliminary investigation. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination and the exact circumstances would become clear after the report is received, he said.
