Manchester United are looking to strengthen three key areas of their squad ahead of the 2026/27 campaign, as per reports.

After securing Champions League qualification with a third-place finish last season, the Red Devils are already gearing up for a return to Europe’s premier club football competition, having already made three signings.

According to the Daily Mail, Manchester United’s transfer business is far from over, as head coach Michael Carrick and his staff are eager to sign a third midfielder, ease the load on Benjamin Sesko in attack, and strengthen the left side of the team.

United recently completed two midfield signings in Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos after losing veteran midfielder Casemiro as a free agent upon the expiry of his contract in June.

While Tielemans and Santos are viewed as major signings, the Devils still want a third midfielder, with the report stating that they hold interest in Bournemouth’s Alex Scott, Lille’s Ayyoub Bouaddi, Roma’s Manu Kone, Real Madrid’s Aurelien Tchouaméni and Fulham’s Sander Berge.

While Sesko flourished under Carrick in the second half of last season, the forward was not a nailed-on starter. And with Sesko still sidelined by a shin injury and United open to moving on from Joshua Zirkzee, the club are in the market for a forward this summer.

Although Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha can play as centre-forwards, the report said Carrick does not like deploying a false nine, especially in matches where Manchester United are not expecting to dominate possession.

The situation on the left side has largely been influenced by the uncertainty over Marcus Rashford’s future. The England international remains on the books of Manchester United after Barcelona opted against triggering his release clause.

Interest in West Ham United’s Crysencio Summerville, who is now on the verge of joining Al-Hilal, was reportedly hinged on Rashford’s potential departure.

The signing of 18-year-old Tynan Thompson also reportedly added to the intrigue surrounding what is happening on the left wing. The outlet said it was told that Thompson is a “United-type winger from the 90s” who will bring a strong 1v1 ability, which has been missing on the left across the club’s academy sides.

In the same report, the Daily Mail said Senne Lammens will remain Manchester United's first-choice goalkeeper for the new season. The 24-year-old made his debut for United against Sunderland in a Premier League match in October 2025 and marked the occasion with a clean sheet.

Altay Bayindir had started the campaign as the Red Devils’ first-choice goalkeeper, but Lammens’ shutout against Sunderland saw him displace Bayindir. The Belgian then remained in goal for every subsequent match of the season.

Lammens kept eight clean sheets in 33 appearances across all competitions for the Red Devils last term.
