The Anaikaran Chathiram police in Mayiladuthurai district have launched an investigation into the death of a 55-year-old man Subhash at Thirumayiladi village on Sunday.
According to police, a quarrel broke out between Subhash and his neighbour in the morning following problems over land issue. Subhash died later and his family alleged that his death was due to assault.
Police personnel conducted inquiries and the body was shifted to the Government Hospital, Sirkazhi, where autopsy was conducted. The Anaikaran Chathiram police have registered a case under Section 194 (iii) of the BNSS and are conducting an investigation, police sources said.
