Kylian Mbappe recorded two goals and an assist in the FIFA World Cup 2026 third-place playoff match between France and England in Miami on Saturday.
With the two contributions, the Real Madrid star took his tally in the edition to 13. Only Gerd Muller (in 1970) has previously managed to record 13 G+A at a single World Cup since 1966.
France’s Just Fontaine scored 13 goals in the 1958 World Cup but no assists were recorded during the tournament.
Didier Deschamps’ side was under the cosh in the encounter against the Three Lions, conceding four goals in the first half.
But, Mbappe and Bradley Barcola managed to halve the deficit after Deschamps made four changes at the interval. Mbappe then added another in the 66th minute to bring France right back into the contest.
Mbappe also went to the top of the Golden Boot standings of the 2026 edition with the goal. He now leads Lionel Messi by one goal.
