A 35-year-old migrant worker from Odisha was found dead in his rented accommodation at Poopparamba in Eruvessy, within the limits of the Kudiyanmala police station in Kannur, on Tuesday.
The deceased was identified as Philip Kimaka. The police arrested Ramesh, the deceased’s brother-in-law, in connection with the death.
According to the police, Ramesh allegedly admitted during questioning to killing Philip. His arrest was subsequently recorded.
The police suspect that a prolonged family dispute, coupled with alcohol abuse, may have led to the incident. However, the exact motive is yet to be ascertained.
Philip and Ramesh were among a group of migrant workers engaged in construction work and had been living in rented quarters at Poopparamba for the past several years.
