An undated video purportedly showing a Russian soldier discovering a booby trap concealed inside a chocolate bar allegedly recovered from the Russia-Ukraine battlefield has gone viral on social media. The clip shows a masked soldier opening the packaging of a popular American chocolate brand before cutting the chocolate bar with a knife, revealing what appears to be a pressure-activated explosive device inside.

Video shows suspected explosive hidden inside chocolate

In the viral video, the soldier is seen carefully slicing open the chocolate bar after removing it from its wrapper. Inside, he uncovers a device that appears to be a pressure-activated bomb, suggesting the confectionery had allegedly been modified as a booby trap.

The authenticity of the video, as well as the origin of the device and the circumstances under which it was found, has not been independently verified.

    Social media reactions

The video sparked a wide range of reactions on social media, with users expressing surprise, scepticism and drawing comparisons with past conflicts.

One user joked, "That's what kindergartens are like in Russia."

Another wrote, "Wow, in war, anything is possible."

Not everyone was convinced by the footage. A sceptical user commented, "It's more fake than anything! How did they know exactly where to cut?"

Another social media user referred to the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, writing, "During the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan in the 80s, the Russians would leave toys with explosives so that Afghan children who had nothing to do with the war would pick them up, leaving the little ones without legs and without arms. So they deserve all that and more."
