The CIA-1 unit of the Kurukshetra Police arrested a miscreant after a brief exchange of fire on NH-152 near Phoolgarh village in Pehowa last night. The miscreant was identified as Sanjay, alias Deepu Randhawa, a resident of Pehowa.

    According to a Kurukshetra Police spokesperson, Sanjay, Nawab, Moti alias Akash, and Kuldeep had recently attacked Sachin with sticks and sharp-edged weapons over an old enmity and then managed to flee. On Tuesday evening, the CIA-1 unit received information that Sanjay had been spotted near the bus stop of Phoolgarh village on NH-152 in Pehowa and was carrying weapons.

    Following the tip-off, a team from the CIA-1 reached the spot and spotted Sanjay. As the police personnel tried to nab him, he opened fire multiple times at the police party in an attempt to flee. In response, the police personnel also opened fire, and Sanjay sustained a bullet injury to his leg.

    Sanjay was taken to the Government Hospital in Pehowa and later shifted to Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Civil Hospital for treatment. A case has been registered against him at the Pehowa Sadar police station. The police recovered six empty cartridges from the spot and one pistol and two live cartridges from his possession. CIA-1 in-charge Prateek Kumar said the accused was involved in an assault case registered on June 20 in Pehowa. On Wednesday, he was discharged from the hospital and arrested. Several cases under the Arms Act and for assault have been registered against him in the past.

    Meanwhile, Nawab, another miscreant involved in the assault case, has also been arrested. During patrolling near the HUDA Ground, the team stopped the miscreant and, during checking, recovered one country-made weapon and one live cartridge from his possession, the CIA-1 in-charge said.
