The Gurugram police have re-arrested an accused in a car embezzlement case who had escaped from the police custody in Madhya Pradesh earlier this month.

The accused, identified as Prakash Rajak (27), a resident of Ranguwan village in Sagar district, Madhya Pradesh, had escaped on July 1 while being brought to Gurugram. He fled from a police vehicle at a petrol pump in Garoth town, Mandsaur district, when the vehicle had stopped for refuelling.

Departmental inquiries were initiated against the station house officer (SHO) and the moharrir head constable (MHC) of the Sector 14 police station. The case stems from a complaint lodged at the police station by a representative of Vidya Blue Birds. The complainant alleged that a company car left for repairs at UA Automobiles Workshop on Sheetla Mata Mandir Road had gone missing. During the inquiry, the police found that Rajak, a former employee of the company, had taken the vehicle. A case was subsequently registered.

Rajak was later taken into custody for questioning. However, he escaped while being transported to Gurugram.
