Rainfall likely to reduce after Wednesday's heavy spell

After an intense spell of heavy to very heavy rainfall on Wednesday, the IMD has indicated that rainfall activity over Mumbai and adjoining districts is expected to gradually reduce from July 9 onwards.

However, occasional heavy showers may still occur in isolated areas, particularly during thunderstorm activity. Cloudy conditions are expected to persist across the region.

Thunderstorms and lightning may affect daily commute

Even with a reduction in rainfall intensity, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and squally winds could cause localised disruptions across Mumbai and Thane.

Motorists are advised to drive carefully on slippery roads, while commuters should allow extra travel time due to the possibility of temporary waterlogging and slower traffic during heavy showers.

Sea conditions likely to remain rough

The IMD has advised that sea conditions along the Konkan coast may remain rough despite the expected decline in rainfall. Fishermen are advised to follow the latest weather advisories before venturing into the sea.

Residents living in low-lying or flood-prone areas should continue to remain alert, as isolated heavy showers may still lead to brief waterlogging.

    Safety advisory for residents

The weather department has urged people to take precautions during thunderstorms and heavy rain. Residents should:
    • Avoid standing under trees or near electric poles during lightning.
    • Stay away from waterlogged roads where possible.
    • Secure loose outdoor objects that could be affected by gusty winds.
    • Check traffic and public transport updates before travelling.
    • Follow official IMD and local authority advisories for the latest weather updates.
