Prabhakaran, a murder case accused, has been arrested after he killed his wife Karthiga, 24, on July 2 and burnt her body at his farm near Melur in Madurai district.

The murder came to light after the accused surrendered before the village administrative officer and confessed to the murder. Melur police have arrested three of his associates who were involved in the burning of the woman’s body.

The police said that Prabhakaran, who was arrested in connection with a 2021 murder case, came out of jail four months ago. While staying with his wife and three-year-old child at Kottakudi, he became suspicious of his wife’s fidelity. This led to frequent quarrels between the couple.

Recently, his wife left for her parents house at A. Kovilpatti. Later, she approached the police and took possession of her daughter from Prabhakaran. Prabhakaran went to Kovilpatti and held discussions with his in-laws. He managed to pacify them and brought back his wife and child to Kottakudi. After taking his wife to the farm, he hit her with a spade and killed her and burnt her body. The case is under further investigation.
