Members of the Deenbandhu Chhotu Ram University Employees Union (DCREU) staged a protest against the university administration and held a dharna outside the Vice-Chancellor’s office, demanding the fulfilment of their pending demands. The union warned that it would intensify its agitation if its demands were not addressed.

DCREU president Suresh Puthi alleged that repeatedly blocking the deputation of Senior Scale Stenographer Meenakshi amounted to an attack on women’s rights. He said while the country was moving towards greater women’s representation in public institutions under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi, the university administration was denying

    the legitimate rights of

    a woman employee.

Suresh further alleged that although the university’s service rules had been sent to the government for approval, the administration was refusing to follow the Haryana Civil Services Rules.

He claimed that the employee was neither being promoted nor allowed to proceed on deputation.

“The employee is neither being promoted nor sent on deputation. What is the employee supposed to do?” the union questioned, alleging that the university administration was adopting a double standard.

According to the union, Meenakshi has also submitted a detailed memorandum to the Haryana State Commission for Women (HSCW), alleging administrative harassment. The union said it was hopeful that the commission would ensure justice in the matter.

The DCREU said the dharna would continue until Meenakshi’s deputation proposal is approved, meaningful dialogue on employees’ issues is initiated, and what it described as unnecessary administrative objections are withdrawn.

The union also warned that if its demands are not accepted at the earliest, it will intensify its protest.
