Former Canadian hockey Olympian Jason Demers has questioned Dallas Stars forward Jason Robertson’s recent contract extension.

Robertson signed a one-year, $12 million extension with the Stars on Tuesday. The restricted free agent, who had earlier filed for arbitration, avoided the hearing scheduled for next month.

Notably, before his extension with the Stars, Jason Robertson rejected a lucrative eight-year, $15 million offer from the Seattle Kraken because he did not want to sign long-term. When asked why he turned down the Kraken’s offer, Robertson said:

In response, Demers took to social media and questioned the Stars forward’s move:

Robertson has made it clear he wants to remain in Dallas. He will now be a restricted free agent next summer, making him eligible to sign an extension on January 1.

Just a day after signing the extension, Jason Robertson stated that he wasn’t free to go anywhere, which made the chances of him staying in Dallas this offseason very high.

He added:

Robertson has been with the Stars for the last seven seasons after they drafted him with the 39th overall pick in the 2017 draft. The 27-year-old led the team with 96 points through 45 goals and 51 assists in 82 games last season.
