Amidst tight police security, the consecration of Nallathangal temple in Watrap was conducted on Thursday.

The consecration was conducted following High Court direction as there were differences of opinion between people of two villages, Arjunapuram and Anaikaraipatti over installation of new idols after the old idols were vandalised in January 2025.

Even as the efforts for consecration were taken up by the officials of Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments, people of Anaikaraipatti approached the High Court against the administration of the temple by people of other side.

The High Court directed people of both villages to unitedly participate in the consecration proceedings.

The idol of Nallathangal was installed and the pujas were conducted throughout Wednesday night.

Hundreds of devotees from various parts of the State took part in the event. Srivilliputtur MLA, Karthik, temple Fitperson, Devi, were present.
