Decks have been cleared for the establishment of a martyrs'' memorial at Nasibpur village in Mahendragarh district to honour the brave heroes of Ahirwal and acquaint the visitors with the glorious history of the region.

The state government plans to build the war memorial with a view to inspire the future generations with the courage, struggle and sacrifice of the region's warriors who fought bravely against the British rule during the country's first war for independence in 1857.

The grand memorial complex, being developed on about 5 acres (42 kanal and 10 marlas) of land, will include an open-air theatre, light-and-sound shows, exhibition gallery, auditorium, administrative building and other facilities.

The selection of site for the memorial was based on the Battle of Nasibpur (also known as the Battle of Narnaul), which took place on November 16, 1857.

Freedom fighters led by Rao Tula Ram and his cousin Rao Gopal Dev formed a coalition and fought a fierce battle against the British forces. Hundreds of warriors lost their lives during the battle.

Haryana observes Heroes'' Martyrdom Day on September 23 every year to mark the sacrifices of such unsung fighters.

After facing delays over land transfers and other techno-administrative issues, the project has been set into motion. The government has invited consultancy and architectural firms to finalize the structural plans and begin active construction.

The design of the memorial is in the process of being finalized and work on the project is likely to begin soon.

Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini recently reviewed the progress of the project in presence of Industries and Commerce Minister Rao Narbir Singh and Health Minister Arti Singh Rao.

The Chief Minister has emphasized that smooth accessibility and adequate parking space and public amenities should be ensured so that tourists and visitors do not face any inconvenience.

He has also directed the officers concerned to give special attention to the beautification of the memorial complex and development of green areas.

Haryana Health Minister Arti Singh Rao, who is a descendant of prominent freedom fighter Rao Tula Ram, maintained that this memorial will not only preserve the region's glorious history, but also infuse patriotic fervour and spirit to serve the nation in the generations to come.

"The memorial complex will be designed to provide the visitors with inspiring insights into the history, valour and sacrifices of Ahirwal's brave martyrs," she said, adding that the Nasibpur Memorial would emerge as a living symbol of Ahirwal's patriotic past and indomitable spirit.

Appreciating the initiative of the state government, Mahendragarh MLA Om Prakash Yadav described the move to establish the Nasibpur Memorial as a historic step.
