New Delhi: The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) Parliamentary Party will hold its weekly ‘Mangal Milan’ meeting on Tuesday, with the Nationalist Citizens Party of India (NCPI) invited to attend the gathering for the first time.
The meeting is scheduled for 9.30 am at the GMC Balayogi Auditorium in the Parliament Library Building. It takes place during a politically significant Monsoon Session, where debates over examination reforms and protests over the alleged police action against students have dominated proceedings.
If the NCPI attends, it will mark the party’s first participation in an NDA Parliamentary Party meeting after 20 former Trinamool Congress (TMC) MPs announced their merger with the party and extended support to the BJP-led alliance.
The NCPI, led in Parliament by veteran MP Sudeep Bandyopadhyay, held its first parliamentary party meeting on Sunday. Party leaders said their seating arrangements, division numbers and legislative blocks had been accepted within Parliament, while reaffirming their support for the NDA.
However, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla is yet to formally decide on recognising the merger of the rebel MPs with the NCPI.
Tuesday’s meeting comes a day after Union Minister of State Jitendra Singh introduced the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026 in the Lok Sabha amid repeated disruptions by Opposition members.
The proposed legislation aims to strengthen the law against paper leaks and examination fraud through seven major changes. These include time-bound investigations and trials, Special Fast-Track Courts, Special Task Forces, Special Public Prosecutors, stricter punishments, higher financial penalties and a simplified appeal process.
The NDA is expected to field several young MPs during the four-hour debate on the Bill, including NCPI MPs Sharmila Sarkar and Mitali Bagh.
The parliamentary meeting also comes as the Opposition continues to disrupt proceedings, demanding accountability from Union Home Minister Amit Shah over the alleged police action during the July 20 ‘Sansad Chalo’ protest. Opposition parties have also questioned whether the proposed anti-paper leak law will effectively prevent future examination fraud.
At the previous NDA Parliamentary Party meeting on July 21, Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasised the government’s commitment to protecting students and addressing examination malpractice.
The Prime Minister had said the government “stands with the students” and stressed that paper leaks were a matter of national concern that should not be politicised.
The invitation extended to the NCPI is also being viewed as part of the NDA’s efforts to expand its parliamentary strength ahead of key legislative initiatives, including the proposed Delimitation Bill.
