R. Shiva Prasad, a 2016 batch IPS officer, assumed office as Superintendent of Police (SP) of Thoothukudi district on Monday.
Mr. Shiva Prasad was hitherto SP of Sivaganga district and prior to that he was the SP of Theni district. He succeeds Abishek Gupta, who was posted as SP of Sivaganga district.
Speaking to the media after taking charge, Mr. Shiva Prasad said, “In line with the Tamil Nadu government’s priorities, special emphasis will be placed on eliminating narcotics in Thoothukudi district. Equal importance will also be given to the safety and security of women and children.”
He added that police would continue to focus on regular policing, maintaining law and order and strengthening police administration. The district’s challenges and prevailing conditions would be thoroughly assessed and appropriate measures would be implemented significantly.
Mr. Shiva Prasad started his career as Assistant Superintendent of Police, Virudhunagar Sub-division. Following that he served as Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Law & Order, Madurai city, DCP Washermenpet, Chennai, DCP, Anna Nagar, Chennai, and then SP of Madurai district.
