The acting chairman of New Mangalore Port Authority (NMPA), Sushil Kumar Singh, on Wednesday said he was confident that the port would achieve the cargo-handling target of 53 million tonnes set for 2026-27.

Speaking at the NMPA Awards Night here, Mr. Singh, who is also the chairman of Deendayal Port Authority and the Indian Ports Association, said that after achieving a record cargo handling of 50.04 million tonnes in its golden jubilee year in 2025-26, reaching the 53-million-tonne target would not be difficult for the port, given the cooperation of all its stakeholders. He congratulated the entire port community on achieving the historic milestone of handling 50.04 million tonnes of cargo, the highest ever in NMPA’s history.

Mr. Singh attributed the achievement to the support and partnership of exporters, importers, shipping lines, terminal operators, Customs, logistics service providers, transporters, stevedores, customs house agents and other stakeholders, describing them as the true partners behind the port’s success. He said NMPA was actively working to strengthen infrastructure, improve draft availability, enhance liner shipping connectivity, and develop new cargo streams to unlock the port’s full potential.

NMPA traffic manager Rajendra Kumar expressed gratitude to stakeholders for their support, commitment, and partnership, which, he said, had played a pivotal role in helping the port achieve its highest-ever cargo traffic. He reaffirmed the port’s commitment to providing world-class infrastructure, efficient services, and stakeholder-centric initiatives.

On the occasion, the port felicitated stakeholders across various categories for outstanding performance. Deputy chairperson S. Shanthi, chief vigilance officer K. Padmanabhachar, deputy chairperson Chandrashekar Palekar, and others were present.
