There seems to be no reason at all for the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) party to indulge in horse-trading as charged by some political parties, said Congress MP Karti Chidambaram here on Thursday.

Speaking to media persons, he said that in the present scenario, the TVK, with its numbers in the Legislative Assembly, should be in a position to complete its full-term in office. Under such circumstances, “I see no reason for the party to engage in pulling up MLAs into its fold or seeking resignations et al,,” he said.

On the performance of the Tamil Nadu government, he said, the party was yet to submit its budget. “There is more time for such appraisals to be made,” he added. However, he said, that the government was giving an impression that it would not tolerate corruption in any manner and at any level.

“The fact that Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay had stated that no body will be spared if there are any charges of corruption. Is a bold step and it will send strong signals down the line,” he said.

On custodial deaths, Mr Karti said that the government cannot be blamed for this. There was a need for a change in the mindset of the police. Right from the DGP to the policeman, there has to be a transformation. “Better handling of the public in conflict with the police is possible. Whichever government is in power, such deaths happened. Hence, the government or the CM alone can’t be pulled up,” he said.

The DMK, he hoped, would continue to oppose the delimitation exercise in the ensuing Parliament session as it would affect the southern States.

Earlier, Mr Karthi Chidambaram presided over the DISHA meeting at the Collectorate in the presence of Sivaganga Collector P. Akash.
