Reiterating his vision for the State’s development, particularly the Telangana Rising Vision of a geographically-layered growth of agriculture, manufacturing and services sectors, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Wednesday said the government is proactive in policy making.
“We don’t [suffer from] any policy paralysis. Whatever [policy] decisions of previous governments that supported investment and employment we have adopted and improved,” he said, adding his government has unveiled many growth oriented policies. These include those related to the health and tourism sectors besides the ambitious Telangana Rising 2047 Vision.
Speaking after inaugurating the Amara Raja Advanced Cell Technologies’ Customer Qualification Plant (CQP) in Divitipally near Hyderabad, Mr. Revanth Reddy said the focus is to enhance GSDP of the State, especially take its contribution to GDP, of the country, from 5% to 10% by 2047. This is also a timeline by when Telangana aspires to be a $3 trillion economy.
Recalling his association with Amara Raja founders, he said the Group has come a long way to compete globally. Electric vehicles, he added, were a way out of the vehicular emission challenge confronting the world.
Amara Raja Group employs 700 people in Giga Corridor project now, of which 400 are women, he said, urging the Group Chairman Jayadev Galla to accord priority to children of the farmers who gave land for the project. Mr. Reddy also assured the gathering that his government will continue to take efforts for development of Mahbubnagar district, including implementing the Dindi lift irrigation project.
Industries and IT Minister D. Sridhar Babu listed measures the government has taken, from land allocation, permissions to issue of incentives, towards the accelerated implementation of the Giga factory project of the Amara Raja Group in Divitipally.
Amara Raja Advanced Cell Technologies said the commissioning of the Customer Qualification Plant, at its Giga Corridor in Telangana, marks a milestone in the company’s roadmap toward commercial-scale lithium-ion cell manufacturing. The CQP bridges the gap between laboratory-scale research and development and commercial-scale production. With an initial capacity of 60 MWh, it will manufacture lithium-ion cells that customers can test and validate ahead of commercial production.
With this intermediate manufacturing step, Amara Raja aims to accelerate the industrialisation of new cell technologies, reduce execution risk as it scales manufacturing, and provide customers with cells produced on manufacturing lines that closely mirror future commercial production. This approach is expected to smooth the learning curve ahead of the company’s first 2 GWh commercial cell manufacturing facility, Giga 1, which is scheduled to commence production next year.
The CQP has a workforce of more than 100 employees. Amara Raja has invested around ₹500 crore on the facility, which is part of the company’s cumulative Phase 1 investment of more than ₹1,500 crore across its ₹9,500 crore Giga Corridor programme. Cells from the facility are expected to be supplied to customers for validation beginning in August.
