New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday morning finally reacted to the ongoing students protests regarding the NEET UG paper leak. He took to social media platform, ‘X’ to say that nothing was more important than the welfare and future of the country’s youth.
Apart from this the PM also announced measures that the government is taking to ensure that justice is served to students impacted by the paper leaks.
PM Narendra Modi further said that the government plans to set up fast track courts to ensure swift and stringent punishment for those involved in paper leaks. He added that he had already directed the concerned authorities and officials to take all necessary steps in this regard.
He said that this measure was in continuation of a series of steps taken by the government for safeguarding the interest of the students. He also warned, “Those who try to harm the future of our youth will not be spared.”
The PM’s reaction came after days of students protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi, led by the newly founded Cockroach Janata Party (CJP). On Monday, the CJP led a protest march to Parliament to put forward their demands. But they were stopped midway by the Delhi Police, who used water canons and tear gas shells against them. The police also lathi charged the protesters.
The police high-handedness led to nationwide outrage. Days later, students across the country held protests, demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Visuals from cities like Patna, Kolkata and other places went viral, showing the confrontation between the police and the protestors. The Opposition too joined the protestors, with Rahul Gandhi leading a sit-in outside the PM’s residence on Tuesday.
Following nationwide outrage, the PM did put out a statement, but stopped short of announcing the sacking of Pradhan, which is the main demand of the protestors. The Monsoon Session of Parliament is currently on and it remains to be seen how the Opposition reacts inside the 2 Houses after the PM’s statement on social media.
