Indian Grandmaster P. Iniyan clinched the 6th La Plagne Open International Chess Tournament title with an unbeaten performance in the Masters category in France.

The tournament, which concluded on Friday, featured 142 players from 20 countries, including 13 Grandmasters and 22 International Masters. Iniyan scored 7.5 points from nine rounds to finish clear of the field.

The 23-year-old remained unbeaten throughout the event, recording six wins and three draws.

After receiving a first-round walkover and drawing his second-round game, Iniyan gathered momentum with back-to-back victories. Another draw in Round 5 was followed by three consecutive wins, including key victories over Italy’s GM Luca Moroni, who finished joint third, and Ukraine’s IM Danyil Mosesov, the runner-up.

Holding a one-point lead going into the final round, Iniyan needed only a draw to secure the title. He did so comfortably against fellow Indian IM Aronyak Ghosh to seal the championship outright.

Aronyak finished joint third alongside Diptayan Ghosh, with both players scoring 6.5 points.

The triumph is Iniyan’s fourth tournament title of the year and his second classical chess title of 2026.
