Pakistan left-arm spinner Mohammad Nawaz has accepted a three-month period of ineligibility, reduced to one month upon successful completion of a substance of abuse treatment programme, after breaching the ICC Anti-Doping Code.
The 32-year-old tested positive for Carboxy-THC, classified as a Substance of Abuse under the ICC Anti-Doping Code, following a doping test conducted after Pakistan’s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 match against the Netherlands in Colombo on February 7.
Nawaz admitted the violation and established that the substance had been used out of competition and in a manner unrelated to enhancing sporting performance.
His three-month period of ineligibility was backdated to May 1, 2026, the date on which he voluntarily accepted a provisional suspension. Under the Code, the sanction was reduced to one month after he agreed to complete a substance of abuse treatment programme.
Having already served two and a half months of provisional suspension, Nawaz’s suspension has now been lifted. Subject to successfully completing the treatment programme to the ICC’s satisfaction, he will not be required to serve any further period of ineligibility.
In accordance with the ICC Anti-Doping Code, Nawaz’s results from Pakistan’s match against the Netherlands on February 7, along with all subsequent matches up to May 1, 2026, have been disqualified.
