The CB-CID, investigating the ₹100 crore Palani mutt land registration scam, raided the houses of two persons in Tirunelveli Town and Palayamkottai on Saturday.

    The CB-CID team raided the houses of Shanmugasundaram on Saaliyar Street in Tirunelveli Town on Saturday forenoon and Kumaraguru of Thiurvalluvar Street in V.M. Chathram in Palayamkottai in the afternoon.

    Police sources privy to this ongoing investigation said the raids were conducted after Shanmugasundaram and Kumaraguru were reportedly in touch with the main suspect of this case Sethupathi of TKN Pudur near Palani in Dindigul district.

    “Since these two had telephonic conversation with the prime suspect and his close associates, the investigators raided their houses to ascertain the nature of conversation. The police team also searched their houses for evidence in this case,” said the sources.

    CB-CID police on Saturday conducted searches at various locations in Dindigul district, including the residence of suspended Sub-Registrar Justin Manikandan Subramanian in connection with the case of fraudulent registration of Palani mutt land.

    A CB-CID team led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Ajay Thangam conducted a search at the residence of Justin Manikandan in ​​Dindigul. The search began at around 7 a.m.. Justin Manikandan was not present at home at the time of the search. However, his family members were present.

    The police examined and collected key documents. They also examined computers and mobile phones in the house and concluded the search by 1 p.m..

    Meanwhile, a 10-member CB-CID team led by CB-CID Superintendent of Police Shajitha conducted searches at the Palani Sub-Registrar Office. The search began at around 8 a.m.. The team questioned the office and examined CCTV footage.

    A CB-CID team led by Inspector of Police Santhanalakshmi visited the farmhouse of Sethupathi and conducted a search for about four hours. The police questioned his family members and seized certain documents.

    The CB-CID police conducted a search at the residence of Lakshmanan, an associate of Sethupathi. It is said Lakshmanan is a DMK functionary. However, the police were unable to conduct a search at the residence of Mayilsamy, another associate of Sethupathi as the house was locked.

    The CB-CID police also conducted a search at the home of a document writer Jayaprakash in Oddanchatram. key documents were recovered during the search operations.
